המרכז נוסד במכללה בשנת 2004 וכיום הינו המרכז המוביל בישראל למחקר פעולה. מטרתו למנף את המשאבים האקדמיים של המכללה לקידום צדק חברתי, הכללה, ויחסים בין-קבוצתיים תוך למידה משותפת, הפקת ידע ובחינה מחודשת של מערכת היחסים בין הקהילה לבין האקדמיה.

במשך השנים, המרכז עסק במחקרי פעולה מגוונים, תוך שיתופי פעולה עם ארגונים קהילתיים וארציים, בתחומים כגון חינוך, פיתוח קהילתי, אנשים עם מוגבלויות, ויחסי יהודים-ערבים. [לינק לרשימת פרויקטים].

פרויקטים אלו ספקו מענים ייחודיים לצרכים חברתיים, יצרו ידע יישומי ותיאורטי, והפיקו פרסומים רבים .

כיום המרכז למחקר פעולה ולצדק חברתי מכנס יחד חוקרים, אנשי מקצוע, פעילים חברתיים ואזרחים המעוניינים לבחון מחדש את עשייתם – ולנסות , תוך כדי פעולה וחקרנות, לממש את הפוטנציאל הטמון בקהילות המגוונות.

המרכז מבצע את שליחותו בעזרת האסטרטגיות הבאות:

קיום מרחב למידה ייחודי לסוכני שינוי, בו מפתחים את יכולותיהם לקדם שינוי ברמה האישית והמערכתית.
הכשרה במתודות ומיומנויות של מחקר פעולה.
תמיכה בייזום ובביצוע של מחקר פעולה בקהילה.
פיתוח "שדות פעולה אסטרטגיים" לקידום שינוי מערכתי
