המרכז לעיצוב וטכנולוגיה ע"ש מיכל ואברהם כדר מוקדש למחקר ופעולה בתחום של עיצוב אינטראקציה העוסק בדיאלוג שנוצר בין אנשים לבין טכנולוגיה ובין אנשים לאנשים דרך טכנולוגיה. אנשי הסגל והסטודנטים במעבדה מפתחים הצעות חדשות לאובייקטים ולסביבות אינטראקטיביות, המצויים בנקודות המפגש בין תחומי ההנדסה, העיצוב והאמנות הנלמדים בשנקר.

במטרה לעמוד בחזית העשייה העולמית ובראש המוסדות האקדמיים העוסקים בחקר האינטראקציה, מציעה המעבדה קורסים רב-תחומיים ואפשרויות למחקרים עדכניים וביקורתיים הנוגעים לטכנולוגיה, עיצוב וחוויות אנושיות. אלו מתבצעים בשיתוף גופי המחקר והיזמות של המכללה, אנשי הסגל האקדמי ובחיבור עם מוסדות תרבות, חברה ותעשייה.
