מרכז המחקר פועל למיסוד השימוש בסימולציות כענף מדעי בעל מסגרת תאורטית, מתודולוגית ומחקרית מוגדרת. למרכז שלוש חוזקות עיקריות שמסמנות את ייחודיותו בקרב מרכזי הסימולציה בארץ ובעולם. ראשית, זהו מרכז המחקר הראשון בישראל המוקדש לחקר השימוש בסימולציה בתחומי ההכשרה והפיתוח המקצועי של מורים בפרט, ושל מקצועות נוספים בכלל (למשל, הפרעות בתקשורת וסיעוד).
מאז הקמת המרכז מתקיימות בו מגוון רחב של סימולציות על בסיס יומי ובאופן שוטף לאורך השנה האקדמית. מרכז המחקר הוקם באפריל 2021 לאחר ההכרה בפעילות המחקרית הענפה שמבוצעת במרכז כחלק בלתי נפרד מהשימוש בכלי לקידום למידה והכשרה. מכאן, למרכז ידע מחקרי עשיר המבוסס על מסד נתונים מגוון שנאסף לאורך השנים. ראש המרכז וחברי המרכז מלווים את העשייה הסימולטיבית במחקרים בגישות מתודולוגיות שונות, וזאת במטרה למסד את תחום המחקר של השימוש בסימולציה בהכשרת מורים, נישה מחקרית שעודנה בראשיתה.
